Starting a business will be somewhat easier from now in Fuengirola, at least in regards to municipal permits. In response to a European Union directive, this month, the Town Hall will bring in a change to its rules, meaning that shops do not have to apply for the traditional opening licence.

In a bid to reduce paperwork and bureaucracy, local retailers, which account for 65 percent of small businesses in the municipality, will be able to submit a letter of intent to the Town Hall. A municipal inspector will then be sent out to the establisment to verify the business declaration.Fuengirola bars and nightclubs are not affected by this change.
